AutoFix: new strategy in the cutting of dies or punches
The AutoFix is a new strategy in the cutting of dies or punches. This function replaces the conventional remnant cut which requires operator supervision.
The conventional way of cutting with wire requires leaving a small portion of the piece uncut so that it is held during the cuts. This small portion is called the remnant or neck and requires its subsequent cutting with the thread machine with the intervention of the operator.
The Autofix Technique
The main working procedure of the Autofix is quite simple. The part to be cut is held by a small portion of triangular, rectangular or combined material. Once the cut or cuts are completed we can easily separate the part with a small blow.
Feature available in the Wire EDM Wizards of Fikus Visualcam
Metalcam has developed the Autofix function for dies and punches in order to offer the best solution to the customers. In the first place the user must enter a remnant value and thereafter the user can choose between different Autofix options.
The Triangular Autofix allows the user to hold the part by a small triangular portion of material instead of the conventional fastener. It also allows the user to choose between a Top or Bottom Fastener.
Vertical Autofix allows the user to cut remnant with a shorter distance than main remnant.
Triangular or Vertical Autofix options are available both for dies and for punches and can be combined in the case of punches.

Typical Application: Tooling
In the case of Tooling it is very common for the part to be held by an upper or lower triangular portion depending on the purpose of the part. After removing the retal by a blow, there will be a part of the die that is completely finished coinciding with the cutting area or life of the die.
The AutoFix is a profitable strategy in the cutting of dies or punches. This function generates a triangular / vertical section remnant to hold the part to be cut and then allows removing the scrap by hitting (Hammering) on it. No Remnant Cut process is generated. You can also choose whether to define the triangle referring to the bottom of the part or to the top.
